Media Release: Clayton Utz's pro bono contribution recognised at ACT Law Society Awards

Canberra, 4 September 2018: Clayton Utz partner Jennifer Wyborn accepted the inaugural Attorney-General's Pro Bono Service Award at the ACT Law Society Annual Dinner and Awards Night in Canberra on 31 August, in recognition of the outstanding pro bono legal services Jennifer and Clayton Utz have provided to the Canberra community.

Jennifer and Clayton Utz were jointly nominated for the award by Women's Legal Centre (WLC) ACT and Canberra Community Law, both long-term community partners of the firm's.

A Workplace Relations and Employment law specialist, Jennifer is also Clayton Utz's Pro Bono partner in Canberra, responsible for co-ordinating the firm's pro bono legal services in the ACT.

In their nomination, WLC ACT and Canberra Community Law noted that the pro bono services the Clayton Utz Canberra team had provided had significantly increased the services each community legal centre was able to provide for socially or economically disadvantaged people in the ACT and had advanced access to justice for women in Canberra.

Jennifer was also recognised for her role in driving initiatives such as introducing a reverse secondment arrangement with WLC ACT which has helped increase skill and capacity at the centre, and Clayton Utz's delivery of free legal training for community legal sector workers in areas such as discrimination and employment law.

Jennifer said she was honoured to accept the Award. "Pro bono is part of what it means to be a lawyer at Clayton Utz. We see it as a privilege to support community legal centres such as WLC ACT and Canberra Community Law to help them build capacity and be able to respond to the growing demand for their services. On behalf of our team, we thank them for this recognition, and also acknowledge the terrific work they do."
