Clayton Utz is set to welcome two accomplished lawyers to its Brisbane office in a move that will strengthen the firm's market-leading capabilities in corporate law.

Jim Peterson and Lisa Houston will start at the firm in July, bringing more than 40 years of combined experience. Mr Peterson will join as a legal consultant from Baker McKenzie, where he is a partner, while Ms Houston will join as a Senior Associate, also from Baker McKenzie.

Clayton Utz Corporate National Practice Group Leader, Stephanie Daveson, said she is delighted to have such experienced lawyers join the team. 'It’s a testament to the strong culture and quality of our team here in Brisbane, and we're privileged to have Jim and Lisa join us.'

'Jim has been a leading corporate lawyer in Queensland for many years and is highly regarded by senior executives for his wise counsel and governance experience. He has an outstanding reputation for advising on complex and high-profile transactions over many years.'

'Lisa has worked with Jim for many years and has been recognised by Australasian Lawyer in its list of rising stars.'

'We have seen an increase in M&A activity nationally since the start of the year although capital markets continue to remain challenging. In Queensland, we've continued to experience strong M&A and commercial activity across the board and are excited to grow the practice in line with the growth the Queensland economy has experienced since 2020.'
