We are pleased to welcome specialist banking and finance lawyer Brendan Smith to our partnership.

Brendan's expertise is in project finance, particularly in major road, rail, airport and social infrastructure projects, as well as major energy projects. Brendan has advised on transactions across Australia, and in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the UK, where he spent a number of years at a Magic Circle law firm in London.

In addition to his infrastructure expertise, Brendan has extensive experience advising clients in the energy sector on financing and acquisitions. He also advises on bank debt financings, capital markets and direct lending.

Clayton Utz Chief Executive Partner Emma Covacevich said Mr Smith's appointment comes as Australia examines its current and future energy and infrastructure needs.

'Brendan has years of experience in Australia and overseas advising on complex financial transactions in industries critical to Australia's development,' Ms Covacevich said.

'With the huge portfolio of infrastructure and energy projects on the horizon in Australia, Brendan's skillset will be essential as we support our clients to navigate the complexities of these financing arrangements.'

Brendan joins from law firm Baker McKenzie, where he is a banking and finance partner. He joins Clayton Utz in Sydney in early March.
