Human Rights in The Context of Compulsory Acquisition Under The Acquisition Of Land Act 1967

Our presenters will guide you through the human rights framework under the Human Rights Act 2019 as it applies to the compulsory acquisition of land in Queensland.

Overview

Our presenters will guide you through the human rights framework under the Human Rights Act 2019 as it applies to the compulsory acquisition of land in Queensland.

The compulsory acquisition of a person's land is one of the most significant ways in which a person's right to property can be infringed. As such, it is critical that constructing authorities both understand, and know how to satisfy, their human rights obligations in this context.

Our presenters will explain your human rights obligations as a constructing authority, how to satisfy those obligations including what methods to implement into your compulsory acquisition processes. You will also be taken through common pitfalls and strategies for limiting the risk of judicial review on human rights grounds.

This workshop is offered by our expert team drawing on their experiences in assisting constructing authorities with human rights considerations in the context of compulsory acquisition.

You will be provided with a hypothetical scenario based on our presenters' extensive experience with compulsory acquisition, human rights and judicial review, together with a number of topics for discussion during the workshop.

The workshop is designed to place participants in the role of an officer considering human rights in a compulsory acquisition process.
