eDiscovery
Managing massive amounts of data requires more than just technology – it demands expertise.
Overview
Our eDiscovery team pairs cutting-edge tools with deep legal insight to sift through vast datasets, ensuring you get the right information, fast. This can be critical in large, complex disputes such as investigations, inquiries, and Royal Commissions.
This includes going through both current and legacy computer systems to collect and preserve your data, and analysis from our dedicated, experienced and scalable in-house paralegal team using AI and other tools.
But we go beyond just locating the relevant data. We’ll put together a strategic, defendable and repeatable approach to manage what we find from start to finish. Everything will be recorded properly, easily tracked and correctly produced, complete with any necessary redactions and in the right formats and ready for trial. If you’re responding to a regulator, we’ll even manage all regulatory notices and associated document and information responses. And it will all be done with the expert guidance of our lawyers.

Experience
Case Study: Managed matter repository
Summary: Our client was facing the challenge of organising and responding to hundreds of litigious insurance claims, meeting deadlines and staying on top of evidence and key documents.
CaseTrace was deployed to provide the client and legal team with oversight over deadlines, key court documents, evidence and tracking, to ensure that these matters could be prioritised appropriately and deadlines met.
Approach: Standardising the response approach across all matters allowed for comprehensive, repeatable workflow deployment. From receipt of evidence, to categorisation of documents, to disclosure, drafting and tracking court documents, everything was managed centrally. Leveraging advanced eDiscovery technology, matters could be searches, analysed and reported on in real time.
Value: The central and repeatable nature of the robust workflows allowed for significant efficiencies. Utilising a central blueprint, all parties could confidently and clearly have visibility over all components to focus in on next steps.
Case Study: Large litigation
Summary: Our client was party to a litigation matter both significant in size and complexity. Over 10TB of evidence had been collected, millions of documents reviewed and thousands produced between the many parties.
In order to keep track of all the moving pieces, CaseTrace was deployed as a central matter management and oversight tool, with live access provided to both client and legal team.
Approach: The overarching goal was to be able to answer any question, no matter how historical or voluminous, within mere minutes. If the legal team needed to know what documents were referred to in an affidavit 4 years earlier, and where that document came from, we needed to be able to instantly provide these answers.
To do so, we contemporaneously tracked all components in CaseTrace, including evidence, data sources, custodians, orders, categories, searches, decisions, productions and matter documents.
Value: Our client was able to rely on the certainty that came with real time, auditable tracking. This saved significant time and effort in what would otherwise be a complex retrospective exercise, with considerable risk and difficulty.
Benefitting from efficient and accurate responses to questions, our client was able to progress the litigation with clarity and focus.
Case Study: Regulatory engagement management
Summary: Our client was facing a barrage of regulatory notices issued by multiple different entities.
In order to ensure responsive documents were produced in a centralised, tracked and auditable way, CaseTrace was implemented.
Approach: By tracking documents produced against the relevant notice, regulator and data source, our client was able to clearly visualise what had gone where, when, and to whom.
This platform gave the team visibility over privilege and confidentiality consistency, oversight over areas that may give rise to organisational risk, and an auditable, defensible workflow to rely on and provide to the regulators to defend the response credibility. This information was also accessible and ready to be used where it became relevant to a litigation or ancillary production task.
Value: Our client was able to stay in control of their data, with oversight from collection all the way through to production. By centralising this information, valuable real time insights could be derived in order to inform business decisions and risk management processes. Time and money is saved by relying on repeatable, robust workflows, ensuring consistency across notice responses.
Case Study: Royal Commission
Summary: Our client was party to a Royal Commission of significant complexity and size. Over the period of 6 months, they were involved in ~180 notices, produced over 1 million documents as part of ~530 production tranches, and assisted over 50 key witnesses.
CaseTrace was deployed as a single source of truth to track all components as they related to each other, providing clarity and order to all stakeholders.
Approach: By tracking evidence from collection all the way through to production, and everything in between, the client was empowered to provide thorough and fulsome responses to assist the Commission with their Inquiry.
Notices, Categories, Productions, Witnesses, Matter Documents, Exhibits, Transcripts and Evidence were all tracked, providing a high volume of information that could be relied upon to assist with the response.
Value: The client was able to answer critical questions posed by both the Commission and other parties by reason of the web of information contained within CaseTrace.
In particular, the entire history of a document was visible. A particular document could be marked as relevant to a witness, produced as part of notices, referred to in court transcripts, provided as part of certain evidence, and referred to in statements, enabling significant detailed and fulsome analysis to occur.
