Overview

Fred Hawke has a 40-year trajectory in insurance law, half of which was within the insurance sector, negotiating and settling disputes involving some of Australia’s largest liability losses. Since joining Clayton Utz, his focus has been on insurance and reinsurance law, notably regulatory issues and various insurance arrangements. Fred is also a distinguished writer on insurance law and an occasional lecturer at several leading Australian universities.

  • NAB: acted for advised on professional indemnity claims, product development, lenders mortgage insurance and reinsurance matters.
  • ANZ Banking Group: conducted major reinsurance claim litigation, recovering over A$114 million.
  • ANZ: advised and assisted in de-registering and winding up ANZcover.
