Overview
As a specialist in land acquisition, Kaia offers extensive experience advising Queensland government departments and local governments in relation to early access to land, the power to acquire and the entitlement to claim compensation.
Notable Work
- Advising on many significant road and rail projects in South East Queensland including the Inland Rail Project, Cross River Rail Project, Gold Coast Rapid Transit projects, Beerburrum to Nambour Project, Logan Faster Rail, Airport Link and the South West Transport Corridor.
- Acting for the Department of Transport and Main Roads since 2008. Over the years, Kaia has provided advice to assist TMR to exercise its compulsory acquisition powers and assess compensation claims and has acted for TMR in Land Court, Land Appeal Court, Court of Appeal and High Court proceedings.
- Advising the Coordinator-General in relation to the Currumbin Eco-Parkland and compensation claims within the Townsville State Development Area and acting for the Coordinator-General in relation to a number of Land Court and Supreme Court Proceedings.
- Acting for ARTC in relation to the acquisition of land for Inland Rail including advising on land access issues and preparing the Site Access Schedule.
- Advising on corridor acquisition for the Cross River Rail Project including the power to acquire land, tenure issues, compensation claims and surrounding land uses.
- Advising Brisbane City Council in relation to the acquisition or part of a lease under the Land Act 1994 for the Kangaroo Point ferry terminal.
- Advising Gold Coast City Council in relation to the power to take land for the conservation of koalas including judicial review proceedings
