Patrick is a skilled corporate energy and resources lawyer, specialising in transactional and regulatory matters associated with the development, investment and ongoing operation of energy and resources projects across Australia.

Notable Work
  • Senex Energy: advised on gas supply arrangements supporting its Queensland developments including regulatory approvals, land access, project development and gas sales and transportation agreements associated with Senex's Roma North and Atlas Projects.
  • Arrow Energy: advising on a series of strategic transactions at the Moranbah Gas Project, involving interests in several highly complex joint venture arrangements, gas tolling and transportation agreements, downstream supply commitments and electricity hedging arrangements.
  • NT Government via its Department of Chief Minister and Cabinet: advised on securing future gas supply for the Territory, including from the Beetaloo basin, one of the world's largest untapped gas reserves.
  • Senex Energy: advised on its A$900 million takeover by Hancock & POSCO International Corporation.
  • Jabiru Hybrid-Solar/BESS: acted for the Northern Territory Government in relation to the replacement of the aging ERA mine generation system at Jabiru in the Northern Territory with a new hybrid power station integrating 3.9MW solar generation and a 3MW/5MWh battery, with 4.5MW diesel generation to balance sustainability with reliability in the Kakadu world heritage area.
  • EMR Capital: advised on the acquisition (with Adaro Energy) of Rio Tinto's 80% Joint Venture interest in the premium steel-making coal mine, the Kestrel Coal Mine.
  • Kestrel Coal: post-acquisition advising on a range of expansion and efficiency projects for the mine including drafting and negotiating agreements to allow additional longwall panel mining to occur through the acquisition of additional mining tenement rights, and drafting and negotiating coal tolling arrangements to allow for increased ROM Coal production to occur.
  • APLNG CSG-LNG Project: working with Origin Energy as Upstream Operator of the Australia Pacific LNG Project on a range of regulatory matters and obtaining regulatory approvals, assisting with joint venture arrangements, project development and gas sales and marketing matters.
  • PetroChina: assisting on the establishment of its gas trading business in East Australia including drafting and negotiating key supply arrangements with a number of major Queensland gas traders.
  • Secondments: Patrick has also undertaken secondments with a number of key clients including Origin Energy, Peabody Energy, Senex Energy and Kestrel Coal Resources.
