Overview

Robert advises private and Government clients about regulatory obligations, obtaining and varying project approvals, and managing relationships with regulators and stakeholders. He has a particular focus on energy, transport, infrastructure and mining projects. He is a specialist in native title and traditional owner matters, land tenure issues, compulsory acquisition and Crown land dealings and approvals.

Robert's disputes practice focuses on contamination and pollution claims and enforcement, planning appeals, and judicial review of administrative decisions.

He also has a discrete specialist practice advising telecommunications carriers and landowners about carrier land access powers and facilities sharing obligations under the Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth).

  • EnergyAustralia: Compliance with environment, planning, water and mineral resources legislation, obtaining and varying operational approvals, rehabilitation planning and execution.Acted in successful judicial review proceedings in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
  • Australian Rail Track Corporation - Inland Rail Project: Extensive native title and traditional owner advice for Victorian and NSW sections of the 1600km project including extinguishment analysis, native title strategy, future act validation, and compliance with obligations under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 (Vic).
  • Transgrid: Extensive native title and project approvals advice for Project EnergyConnect, a $2.2billion, 860km electricity transmission interconnector project linking NSW, SA and Victoria.
  • Ridley Corporation: Regulatory compliance and environmental advice for Australia's largest animal nutrition manufacturer.
  • Monash University: Planning, telecommunications, and environmental advice in relation to various significant University development projects and property assets.
  • nbn: Advice about carrier land access powers, regulatory compliance, and engagement with landowners, delivery partners, regulators and other carriers.
  • Planning approvals and disputes: Acted for developers and landowners in various VCAT review proceedings in relation to residential, renewable energy, commercial, and industrial projects.
