Doug has established and leads Clayton Utz's Risk Advisory practice. He has spent over two decades serving as an advisor to many of the largest financial services institutions across Europe, America, and the Asia-Pacific. Doug's expertise in risk management and financial markets comes from his extensive work on numerous programs and transactions related to regulatory, compliance, capital and technology initiatives. Drawing on his broad international experience, Doug has served as the lead Partner on several of Australia's most significant Risk Management programs.
Ultimately, Doug leverages his knowledge and experience to help our clients navigate complex risk and regulatory challenges, transforming uncertainty into strategic, actionable solutions that drive resilience and long term growth.
- Multiple Major Australian Banks. Lead Partner conducting the end-to-end review of the triennial comprehensive Risk Management Framework in line with APRA’s CPS 220 standard.
- G-SIB European Bank. Worked with one of the largest European Banks on the implementation of the US CCAR/DFAST stress testing requirements. From initial interpretation of the requirements, through to full implementation and the production run of the first two submissions.
- Significant US Government Housing Agency. During the financial crisis, worked on the restructuring of one of the large US government housing agencies.
- Worked with a major Australian bank to assess and refresh its Risk Appetite Statement and related Risk Appetite Dashboard reporting.
- Worked with a major Japanese Bank to implement the new Over the Counter Derivative Trading Obligations. Multi-year projects working with GC and CRO to develop obligations list, and then lead the program of work to implement the new standard.
- Worked with a major Australian bank to conduct an independent review of its recovery and exit planning scenario testing in line with CPS 190.
