Overview

Hugh is an M&A specialist with a focus on private capital transactions. He has senior in-house experience at a leading global investment firm. His experience covers a range of sectors including financial services, infrastructure, telecommunications, media and sports. Hugh has advised on cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, reorganisations, initial public offerings and general corporate law and commercial matters.

Notable Work
  • Blackstone: advised on the dual track disposal (simultaneous IPO and trade sale auction) of its Australian logistics portfolio, "Milestone". This transaction was ultimately executed as a A$3.8 billion trade sale to ESR Partnership.
  • Virgin Australia Holdings Limited: advised on the sale of Virgin Australia to Bain Private Equity for $3.5 billion.
  • Singtel Optus: advised on its acquisition of Amaysim Australia Limited for $250 million.
  • Allied Credit: advised Bain Capital-backed Allied Credit on the acquisition of Macquarie's auto financing business.
  • Proprium Capital Partners: advised (via its portfolio business AVID) on the take-private of Villa World.
  • OTPP: advised on the sale of minority stakes in a holding structure for its interests in Birmingham and Bristol Airports.
  • Future Fund: advised on the sale of its take in Southern Water to Hermes Infrastructure and UBS.
  • National Rugby League: advised on the acquisition of the Newcastle Knights and various other matters (including while on secondment).
  • Eclipx Group: advised on its A$520 million initial public offering.
  • OFX: advised OzForex Group (now OFX) on its A$480 million initial public offering.
  • Various confidential clients: advised in relation to bids for Australian banking/financial assets.
