- Defence strategy for Bids by competitors: Michael recently acted for the Board of an ASX listed company which received 3 different takeover proposals, two of which were from industry competitors and would have entailed significant scrutiny by the ACCC. Michael worked closely with the client Board and the advisers of the proposed bidders to devise an effective strategy to rank the proposals and ensure the Client was able to assess the bids.
- Saputo/Dairy Industry: Michael has assisted Saputo Inc with the ACCC clearance of various transactions in the Australian dairy industry including the acquisitions of Murray Goulburn, Lion's cheese businesses and various divestments. These matters required detailed understanding of the dynamics of the Australian dairy industry and close engagement with the ACCC which has a particular interest in the dairy industry
- Pharma: Michael assisted a leading multi national pharma client on a range of competition issues flowing from a patent settlement and successfully managed an ACCC investigation through to the matter being closed with no action against the client
- Australian mortgage industry compliance scheme for broker networks: Michael assisted some of Australians leading banks in devising and seeking ACCC approval for an industry wide assurance program to assess compliance risks
- Tollroads : Michael has advised State governments agencies in 3 different States on a range of issues relating to competitive bidding for tollroad concessions and associated market conduct issues
- Reserve Bank of Australia Payment Systems Board: Michael has advised the RBA on a range of matters concerning the RBA's powers to regulate Australian payment systems
- Heineken Inc: advised on Heineken's acquisition of various beer and cider brands from Asahi.
- Flutter Inc./SportsBet: advised Flutter and SportsBet on a range of competition issues in the Australian wagering industry
- Tatts Group Limited: advised Tatts on its merger with Tabcorp including contested proceedings in the Australian Competition Tribunal
- Tyro Limited: advised Tyro on its alliance with Bendigo Bank to form a leading merchant acquiring business;
- Medical Technology Association of Australia: Michael advises the MTAA which represents the Australian med tech industry on a range of issues including Federal government reforms to funding and related competition issues
